In the spring of 1997, three homeless men were loitering on the corner of Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. Like the Detroit Red Wings, they had been lifelong victims of their own self-sabotage. It was the year the Detroit Red Wings would seek atonement for decades of playoff failures with a do-or-die push for their first Stanley Cup in 42 years. That same year, the three homeless men had mustered up just enough life in their souls to commit themselves to one final attempt at redemption and romance. Little did Mickey, Ray Otis, and Super Willie know just how much the Detroit Red Wings' Hail Mary for rebirth would impact their own futures.
