In this darkly goofy satire of today’s America, a small town’s Fourth of July Do-Gooders Club charity fundraiser event turns into The Freedom Barbeque, a would-be rebellion against mask mandates, pandemic lockdowns, gun control and reduced access to meat. In a series of snarky Zoom conversations, Donny and Dylan—and their sons, Eddie and Ozzy—confront long-standing disagreements about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the stakes raised by explosive tensions over Covid 19, Trump era politics, the gig economy and public security laws. When so much is changing so fast, and everything seems to be up for grabs, can we still trust our neighbors or even our loved ones? And if we can’t agree on anything anymore, who gets to decide how we live our lives in the messy melting pot of the 21st Century?
