Using firm-level data collected by the Reserve Bank of India, this book examines the impact of economic reform on productivity and competition in the manufacturing sector of the Indian industry during the eighties. This is the first comprehensive analysis of Indian industry based on micro-level data. Vivek Srivastava taught economics at Delhi University before joining the Indian Administrative Service in 1979.
