"The characters are larger than life and Atalanta's strength and courage will motivate and inspire any young reader." Readers' Favorite "These are wonderful books, and children do and will love them." The Classics Library "[this] book series...teaches young people about the Greek myths. I think other parents will appreciate the educational information in this story and kids will love the adventure..." Readers' Favorite It was important to write a book in our series which contained a strong female character. Many of the heroes of Greek myth are male, but this story inspired us due to Atalanta's determination and conviction as well as being a woman. However, I also chose not to focus on gender as an issue- Atalanta is a hero and not a heroine. She is of equal standing to the other heroes in mythology, such as Perseus and Jason. Coincidentally, the book was released around the same time as the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. Readers may note similarities between Atalanta and Rae, one of the lead characters in the movie. The figure of Atalanta informs many characters in stories over the years, and even if it seems to be a coincidence, I believe this is due to the original Greek myth having such strength. Our hero Atalanta takes on the best of the men and proves she is as fast and as strong as any of them! My name is Simon Spence and I'm the author of Early Myths Books, a collection of children's stories covering the greatest of the Greek Myths! I started writing for children back in 2014 when my first daughter was 4 years old and wanted to read about Perseus and Jason & the Argonauts. I found it hard to find an inspiring myth book for her age group and so I decided to dive right in and start my own series! My two girls have now grown up but are still involved in the creation and writing of these books. Many of the Greek myth books are aimed at teenagers and I wanted to use my knowledge to create stories which bring them to life for a younger group. My books are aimed at 4 to 10 year olds, with bright and exciting pictures, and fun stories of the heroes and gods. We've won a ton of book awards for story, design and illustration. Then in 2018, we were honoured to have the foreword for our fifth book, "Persephone", written by actor, director, comedian and writer, Stephen Fry. Stephen is an amazing author and has written some of the best books for adults on the Greek Myths. These books are the perfect way to introduce children to the world of Greek mythology- and for the adults to brush up on their knowledge and enjoy these stories with their loved ones! The myths can be fun and crazy, full of heroes and monsters, and they will always excite children and help to explain the wonders of the world. Pick a book and dive right in- you don't have to start with book 1 as they're all stand-alone tales. So grab whichever tickles your fancy. We have paperbacks, audiobooks and eBooks available, which means that there's a version for everyone. Enjoy them by listening or by reading, and explore timeless adventure stories.
