Born and raised in Minneapolis, Andy Kantar is the author of a trilogy of Great Lakes shipwreck books written primarily for young adults and enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Together, they tell the stories of the three largest ships lost on the three largest Great Lakes. His first book, 29 Missing, was designated a Michigan Notable Book for young adults, and Black November was a finalist for the Foreword Book of the Year (Young Adult Nonfiction) and was a major source for an Emmy-winning documentary. Deadly Voyage was featured by the Michigan Humanities Council's One Book One County Reads. Game Face, a middle grade basketball novel, won the Bronze Medal in the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and for more than 30 years was an English professor and director of the Writing Center at Ferris State University (Michigan). As a Fulbright Scholar to Norway, he taught two years at the Norwegian Institute of Technology where he established doctoral coursework in scientific writing. He is currently retired and lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Fran.
